Key debate on abortion up to birth

We are getting in touch to update you on the abortion up to birth amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill that was passed by MPs last summer, after just 46 minutes of backbench debate.

The Crime and Policing Bill, which pro-abortion MPs hijacked to attempt to bring in this extreme law change, is now in the House of Lords, where it had its Second Reading in October.

Following Second Reading, two high-profile members of the House of Lords, Baroness Monckton and Baroness Stroud, tabled Committee Stage amendments, along with other Peers, to seek to overturn the highly controversial abortion up to birth amendment (clause 191) to the Bill, and to seek to reinstate in-person consultations with a medical professional prior to an abortion taking place at home.

Several other Committee Stage amendments have also been tabled by Peers who are concerned by the negative impact that clause 191 will likely have.

COMMITTEE STAGE TOMORROW

Tomorrow (Monday, 2 February), at Committee Stage of the Crime and Policing Bill, Peers will debate these abortion amendments.

While it is unlikely that there will be any votes before Report Stage, the next stage of the Bill, tomorrow will be an important day for raising the profile of these much-needed changes to the Bill in the House of Lords, along with making the case for change in the media.

If you want to find out more about these amendments, we have circulated a press release to media contacts this morning that has the full details.

You can view that press release by clicking here.

If you are interested in following the debate tomorrow, you can watch it live from around 3.15pm on Parliament TV online, which you can access here.

Our team will also be live-posting key videos from the debate tomorrow afternoon, on our X account as the afternoon progresses, which you can access here.

If you have an X account, please repost videos you feel are most relevant to your followers. This will be helpful in educating the wider public on the negative impact clause 191 will have – and help build support for removing clause 191 from the Bill, along with the need for other important changes to our abortion laws to be made that will help protect women and save the lives of many unborn children if they are successful.

We know there is a lot going on at the moment, and it will be a very busy couple of months on both the abortion and assisted suicide fronts, so thank you for keeping up with it all.
