The campaign against assisted suicide was given a major boost last week when the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, said that he did not think there should be a debate about whether to introduce assisted suicide until the current underfunding of palliative and social care services had been addressed.

This major intervention from the Prime Minister, signalling his opposition to the new assisted suicide Bill that Lauren Edwards MP has brought forward, is likely to have a significant influence on other MPs.

TAKE ACTION

It is now vital that MPs are made aware not only of Andy Burnham’s comments but also landmark recent polling that shows strong national and local support for his remarks, as well as evidence that hospice and end-of-life care is currently in a state whereby legalising assisted suicide would be particularly dangerous.

We have built a simple tool so that you can send a letter to your MP asking them to vote against the new Bill at its Second Reading vote on Friday 11 September and expressing your support for the Prime Minister’s comments, with accompanying information concerning polling and the current inadequacies in end-of-life care.

WHY SEND A PHYSICAL LETTER?

The tool lets people like you, who are concerned about the revived assisted suicide Bill, generate a letter to send to your MP and have it ready to post in under two minutes.

Many of you have already emailed your MP about assisted suicide. Thank you so much if you have.

Even if you have contacted your MP before, please send them this letter as well. It contains new information and arguments that your MP needs to see, complementing previous information we have included and which is likely to be particularly influential in light of the Prime Minister’s recent comments and in the current political context.

While emails play a crucial role in contemporary advocacy, sending a physical letter carries a unique weight. A printed, signed letter is a tangible, personal form of communication that is often viewed by MPs as more deliberate and impactful, making it harder to ignore. It shows that a constituent feels strongly enough about this issue to print, sign and post a letter. Letters are less likely to get buried in an MP’s inbox and more likely to be opened directly by an MP.

Enter your postcode above to use our EasyAction tool to write a physical letter to your MP and ask them to vote NO to the revived assisted suicide Bill on 11 September 2026.
