Find out where your MP stands on abortion and assisted suicide

    New 2024 General Election Edition

Your resource for finding out where your local MP stands on life issues

The Where Do They Stand platform is an easily accessible online tool that provides information on your local MP’s voting record on life issues – abortion, assisted suicide and embryo research – along with whether they have signed the Both Lives and End-of-Life Protection Pledges

    The platform

One resource for all the information you need

Comprehensive information on Westminster MPs from around the country

The platform provides comprehensive information on Westminster MPs representing constituencies in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

This includes information on whether your local MP has signed the Both Lives and End-of-Life Protection pledges, information that has been crowd-sourced from thousands of Right To Life UK supporters around the country who have mobilised to find out where their local MP stands on abortion and assisted suicide.

Helping people make an informed decision when it comes to voting

The purpose of the platform is to provide voters around the country with up-to-date information on the position their local MP takes on life issues so they can make an informed decision when considering who to vote for.

Each profile includes information on how that MP has voted during their time in Parliament on over 20 major life issue votes in the UK Parliament.

Empowering people to prepare for meeting with or writing to their MP

The platform also empowers people to find out where their MP stands on a particular life issue and then use this information to better equip them for interactions with their MP.

Knowing how a local MP has voted on an issue in the past, along with how they intend to vote, enables members of the public to tailor conversations they have with their Member of Parliament based on this information. This information makes it easier for local constituents to be more persuasive in letters, emails and meetings with their MP.

Key features – Each MP has a Where Do They Stand profile on the platform

    Key details

Key information on the MP, including their name, photo, email address, party and constituency name.

Whether the MP has signed the Both Lives Pledge

The Both Lives Pledge outlines three policy changes that are designed to increase protection for babies in the womb and stop pregnancy discrimination for women – policies that will save lives by protecting and supporting both mother and child.

Whether the MP has signed the End-of-Life Protection Pledge

MP candidates who sign the End-of-Life Protection pledge commit to voting against any attempts to introduce assisted suicide or euthanasia and support increased funding for palliative care for people at the end of their lives.

Whether the MP candidate has signed a pledge to support a change in law that would introduce abortion for any reason up to birth

This pledge campaign was run by the UK’s largest abortion provider. Data showing whether this pledge has been signed has been provided to inform constituents and has been publicly reported by the abortion provider.

    Voting record on life issues

The profile shows how the MP has voted on all major life-issues-related votes that have occurred while they were a sitting MP. This includes a simple position summary for that MP with a count of how many times they voted pro-life, pro-abortion/assisted suicide or abstained. The voting record then provides details on each of the votes, including when the vote was held, what the vote was on and how that individual voted.
