help protect vulnerable lives

We are facing a major threat of the introduction of an extreme assisted suicide law.
The Bill can still be defeated in the Lords, but only with your help.
THE GOOD NEWS – THE BILL CAN STILL BE DEFEATED
Despite the Leadbeater assisted suicide Bill passing its Third Reading on 20 June, it scraped through by just 23 votes (314–291), a significant reduction in support after passing its Second Reading with a 55-vote majority.
This collapse in support for the Bill was the largest proportional drop between those two stages in more than 160 years.
That dramatic swing happened because you, and many thousands of people nationwide, spoke out against the Bill, showing MPs that this extreme proposal would put vulnerable people at risk and lead to many lives being ended through assisted suicide.
Had just 12 more MPs changed sides, the Bill would already be history.
This now leaves the Bill limping into the Lords with a very narrow majority.
Because it is neither a Government Bill nor part of any manifesto, the Lords are fully entitled to heavily amend, time-out or outright reject this dangerous Bill.
This means the Leadbeater assisted suicide Bill can still be defeated and, given its tiny majority, that outcome is now far more realistic than it would have been if so many MPs hadn’t shifted to voting against it.
THE CHALLENGE
Dignity in Dying, My Death My Decision and Humanists UK have poured millions into pushing assisted suicide.
They know support for the Bill is slipping away – and will fight hard to stop the Lords from overturning it.
They will also be fully aware that the last time the assisted suicide lobby tried to hijack a Bill in an attempt to force the Government to bring forward assisted suicide legislation, they lost the vote in the House of Lords.
But this is not the only fight we are facing in the House of Lords.
The Antoniazzi abortion up to birth amendment, which passed in the House of Commons in June, now proceeds to the House of Lords as part of the Crime and Policing Bill.
If it becomes law, it would no longer be illegal for women to perform their own abortions for any reason – including sex-selective purposes – and at any point up to and during birth.
We will be up against the UK’s largest abortion providers, BPAS and MSI Reproductive Choices (formerly Marie Stopes), who are expected to push for even more extreme changes to our abortion laws in the Lords.
For the sake of the thousands of vulnerable lives threatened at both the beginning and the end of life, we must do everything in our power to stop these radical proposals.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Our campaigns, fighting on two fronts against the Leadbeater assisted suicide Bill and the abortion up to birth amendment, have already been the largest and most expensive in our organisation’s history.
This has made a serious dent in our limited resources.
We are now launching two very large campaigns at the same time – in Parliament, across mainstream media, online and in communities nationwide – to fight the Leadbeater assisted suicide Bill and the abortion up to birth amendment as they move through the House of Lords.
To run these campaigns effectively on both fronts, we are appealing to you to give as generously as you can.
With the assisted suicide Bill’s Second Reading in the Lords set for shortly after summer recess – and the abortion up to birth amendment reaching the House of Lords possibly even sooner – we need funds in place now to begin the next phase of the campaigns immediately.
The more we can raise, the more we’ll be able to do to win this battle.
Every donation, large or small, will make a crucial difference. Plus, if you are a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid adds 25p to every £1 you donate at no extra cost to you.
