An NHS whistleblower has leaked an internal email revealing an ‘escalating risk’ around ‘DIY’ abortions. The email highlights that women have suffered potentially life-threatening complications, including ‘ruptured ectopics’, and ‘major resuscitation for major haemorrhage.’
The email further reveals that one woman was able to receive abortion pills at 32 weeks pregnant (a shocking 22 weeks beyond the legal limit for ‘at- home’ abortion), and mentions “3 police investigations. . . linked to these incidents,” one of which is a murder investigation “as there is a concern that the baby was live born” after a woman used the ‘DIY’ abortion service.
A number of other significant problems have arisen since ‘DIY’ abortion services were temporarily permitted by the Government on 30 March.
A nationwide undercover investigation found evidence of abortion providers putting women at significant risk by not carrying out basic checks before sending them the ‘DIY’ home abortion pills. The study also discovered that ‘DIY’ home abortion pills can easily be obtained and administered to others, potentially in a coercive manner, which is especially concerning for domestic abuse victims
In May, it was revealed that UK police were investigating the death of an unborn baby after the mother took ‘DIY’ home abortion pills while 28 weeks pregnant. In addition, abortion provider BPAS announced that it was investigating a further eight cases of women taking ‘DIY’ home abortion pills beyond the 10-week limit, raising questions over what checks are being conducted to ensure the law isn’t being broken and dangerous later-term abortions aren’t happening.
Please enter your postcode above to email your MS now asking them to write to the First Minister to ask the Welsh Government to revoke the dangerous decision they have made to introduce DIY home abortions to Wales and begin a full public inquiry into the many issues with these dangerous services.
