There are now just 7 days until the Leadbeater assisted suicide Bill has the first day of its Second Reading in the House of Lords next Friday, 12 September.
This debate will be pivotal. Although no vote is typically held at Second Reading in the House of Lords, the debate next Friday will be crucial in determining the direction the Lords will take on this Bill. It’s vital that as many Peers as possible attend and speak out against it.
Over 200 Peers have already signed up to speak, but we need to ensure even more do so – and that the overwhelming majority speak in opposition to the Bill.
NEW URGENT ACTION
Following on from emailing Peers, we now need you to take another important step: send a physical letter to a Peer.
You might be wondering if sending a physical letter to a Peer who has already received emails asking them to oppose the Bill will make a difference. It does! Several Peers have told us that receiving a letter will have the most influence at this stage in the Bill’s progress, even if they’ve already received emails on this issue.
We know sending a letter takes more time than an email, but it’s well worth it. Letters make a real difference, and we’ve just launched a new EasyAction tool that makes it incredibly simple for you to send a physical letter to a Peer.
The tool creates a personalised message that highlights a key concern with the Bill, picks the best Peer to receive that message and customises the letter so that it is addressed from you. All you need to do is print it off and send it in the post.
Please take action and click the button below to send a physical letter to a Peer now.
For the best chance of arriving before the first day of Second Reading, please post your letters as soon as possible. Even if you miss this date, don’t worry – letters that arrive later will still have an impact on Peers’ decision-making as the Bill progresses following Second Reading.
If you receive a reply from a Peer, we’d be grateful if you could forward a photo or scan of their response to us at catherine@righttolife.org.uk.
Thank you for your continued support.
