Patients will choose assisted suicide ‘to protect NHS’

The former head of the NHS has said its patients could choose assisted dying to “protect the NHS” and not burden the service.

Lord Stevens of Birmingham, who served as the chief executive of NHS England for seven years, warned it was “dangerous” for the NHS to run an assisted dying service.
