We have some very encouraging news in the battle to defeat the assisted suicide Bill – but we need you to take an important new action now to help turn this opportunity into votes in Parliament.
Last week, Prime Minister Andy Burnham delivered a major setback to the assisted suicide lobby. He said that palliative and social care funding should be fixed before Parliament considers assisted suicide.
This marks a significant change from his predecessor, Keir Starmer, who publicly backed and voted for the previous assisted suicide Bill. This likely swayed a number of MPs to vote for the previous Bill.
Only 12 MPs need to change their minds and switch from voting yes to no for the new assisted suicide Bill to fall.
Already seven MPs who had backed the previous Bill have said they do not support bringing back the Bill in this new Parliamentary session or plans to force it into law via the Parliament Acts.
This major intervention from the Prime Minister is an important opportunity that could move more MPs to vote against the Bill.
