After the disappointing vote on the Antoniazzi abortion up to birth amendment last Tuesday, we wanted to get in touch with information on how you can see which way your MP voted and to let you know about an important action we need you to take.
If this proposal becomes law, it would no longer be illegal for women to perform their own abortions for any reason, and at any point up to and during birth.
There has been no public consultation, evidence sessions, or detailed scrutiny at the Committee Stage regarding this far-reaching law change.
Instead, the largest change to abortion law in over half a century had just forty-six minutes of backbench debate, then a ministerial closing speech in which the minister refused to take any interventions.
TAKE ACTION
We have set up a simple tool that lets you see how your MP voted and email them in seconds – thanking them if they voted NO, or expressing concern if they abstained or voted YES.
This is important because it is possible that MPs may reconsider abortion-related amendments if they are sent back to the House of Commons by the House of Lords during what is known as ‘ping-pong’ (the parliamentary stage after both Houses have considered a Bill and each House considers suggested changes made by the other) or if even more radical future proposals are brought forward.
Please take action and click the button below to find out how your MP voted and ask them to vote the right way next time. It only takes 30 seconds.
If your MP replies, we would be grateful if you could forward their response to us at catherine@righttolife.org.uk.
