Northern Ireland abortion regulations to be rewritten

The Government have announced that they will be rewriting the Northern Ireland abortion regulations which were going to be voted on by MPs tomorrow. This means that a vote on the regulations will not be happening tomorrow.

Many thanks to all of you who have emailed your MP on this issue, asking them to vote against the regulations.

Unfortunately, it is now expected that the Government will shortly re-table the regulations, with only minor unsubstantial changes. There will then be a further twenty-eight-day window for the Government to organise a vote on the regulations, meaning that we will be facing a vote on the regulations within that time period.

Sadly abortions will still be able to happen in Northern Ireland throughout this period.

The positive development here is that this delay means that we now have more time to persuade MPs and Peers to reject the regulations ahead of a vote, so if you have not emailed your MP yet, please do so by clicking the button below.

If you have emailed your MP, this extra time provides an opportunity for you to encourage more friends and family to write to their MPs.

Thank you for your help on this. We’ll be keeping you updated as the situation develops on this.

Action alert – Ask your MP to vote against extreme abortion regulations for Northern Ireland

Last year MPs voted to impose an extreme abortion regime on Northern Ireland. The Government then developed new regulations to introduce this abortion regime. The regulations came into effect on March 31st, but have not been approved by MPs or peers yet.

This Tuesday (12 May) MPs will vote on whether to approve them or not. If they are voted down, this will send a very strong signal to the Government that these extreme regulations should not be imposed on Northern Ireland.

They will then be forced to redraft the regulations to be less extreme or bring forward legislation to allow the new Parliament to vote revoke these regulations, giving back control to the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Please click the button below to email your MP asking them to vote against these regulations on Tuesday. It only takes 30-seconds.

Once you have emailed your MP, please do let friends and family know to email their MP too.

Thank you for your help on this.

Action alert – Ask your MSPs/AMs to revoke dangerous Scotland and Wales ‘DIY’ abortion decisions

The Scottish and Welsh Governments have unfortunately followed the UK Government and introduced ‘DIY’ abortions to Scotland and Wales.

The very substantial change has been announced without any public consultation, parliamentary scrutiny or debate.

Thank you to everyone that has written to their MPs asking them to revoke the decision made by the Conservative Government for England.

We now need to ensure that it is also clear to both the Scottish and Welsh Governments that the public in Scotland and Wales are upset about the decision each Government has made and that it should be revoked in Scotland and Wales as soon as possible.

It is vital that there is pressure in all three Governments on this issue.

If you are a Scottish or Welsh resident, please click the button below to email your MSPs/AMs asking them to urgently raise this with the Scottish/Welsh Government. It only takes 30 seconds.

Once you have emailed your MSPs/AMs, please do let friends and family know to email their MSPs/AMs.

Thank you for your help on this.

Action alert – Ask your MLAs to shut down the illegal ‘DIY’ abortion service

The abortion lobby is continuing to take advantage of the current Coronavirus crisis to make large changes to abortion provision, including the introduction of ‘DIY’ home abortions.

They have been given what they want in England, Wales and Scotland, but their lobbying has not resulted in the introduction of ‘DIY’ home abortions to Northern Ireland.

Given that they have not been able to force a law change, abortion provider, BPAS, has today launched an illegal ‘DIY’ abortion service in Northern Ireland. They are going to be running this from their English call centre, sending out abortion pills to women and girls in Northern Ireland and breaking the law in the province.

It is vital that this illegal abortion service is shut down as soon as possible, and that it is made clear to politicians in Northern Ireland that the public does not want ‘DIY’ abortions made legal in Northern Ireland.

If you are from Northern Ireland, please click the button below to contact your MLAs and ask them to urgently take action to shut down this illegal abortion service.

Once you have emailed your MLAs, please do let friends and family know to email their MLAs too.

If you are not living in Northern Ireland, please do share this development on social media so we can help get the message out as far as possible.

Thank you for your help with this.
