This week is an important week regarding assisted suicide on two fronts – at Westminster with the Leadbeater assisted suicide Bill reaching its final day of select committee on Wednesday – and in Scotland at Holyrood, where the McArthur assisted suicide Bill begins Stage 2 tomorrow.
SCOTTISH ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL – STAGE 2
Stage 2 of the McArthur assisted suicide Bill will start at 9am tomorrow (Tuesday) – this is the next major stage of this Bill, where there is line-by-line scrutiny, and amendments can be proposed and voted on.
Over 250 amendments have been proposed to the Bill – a clear sign of how problematic the McArthur Bill is.
You may recall that while the Scottish Bill passed its first hurdle at Stage 1, the vote was far closer than many commentators expected.
The Telegraph has published an analysis from our Public Affairs team, which indicates that more than 20 MSPs who initially voted for the Bill have indicated they could vote against it at the final vote at Stage 3.
If just seven of these MSPs switch their stance and vote against the Bill, it will be defeated at the Stage 3 vote.
This can be won – but only if people like you act.
If you live in Scotland and haven’t yet asked your MSPs to vote against the Bill at Stage 3, please click here now to contact your MSPs using our easy-to-use tool – it only takes 30 seconds.
You can follow Stage 2 live on Scottish Parliament TV from 9am tomorrow here.
Our team will also share key video clips and live commentary throughout the day on our X account. If you are on X, we encourage you to share any clips from our account that you feel would resonate with your followers, so we can help increase awareness of how dangerous the Scottish Bill is.
WESTMINSTER ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL SELECT COMMITTEE – FINAL DAY
