On Tuesday (12 July) an amendment seeking to introduce abortion to Northern Ireland was passed in the House of Commons. The Bill will be in the Lords for Committee Stage on Monday (15 July) and peers have brought forward a number of amendments to attempt to either remove this new clause in the Bill or make other changes such as giving an extended time for the Northern Irish assembly to return before changes to abortion law are introduced.
If the pro-abortion clause remains in the Bill and changes are introduced, this could leave Northern Ireland with one of the most extreme abortion laws in the world. 100,000 people are alive today because of Northern Ireland’s pro-life laws. It is vital that this amendment does not pass.
