After an inexplicable 18-month delay, the latest abortion statistics have been published by the Government. During 2023 – the most recent year for which data is available – 299,614 pregnancy terminations were performed in the UK. This figure represents the highest annual number since abortion was legalised in 1968, and an 11 per cent increase from the previous high in 2022.
We have become accustomed to record-breaking statistical releases, whether on inflation, energy prices or summer temperatures. But this revelation is not just another official data dump; behind the numbers are 300,000 more lives that will never be lived.
