Opponents of assisted dying have been accused of trying to bog down the legalisation as they try to improve a law many fear will lead to people needlessly ending their own lives.

Progress of Kim Leadbeater’s assisted dying Bill has been delayed in the Lords after peers submitted more than 1,100 amendments to the controversial legislation.
