Action alert 🔥 Vote on abortion regulations tonight

The Government has brought forward new regulations that give the Northern Ireland Secretary, Brandon Lewis, sweeping new powers to impose expanded abortion access on Northern Ireland.

A vote on the regulations is likely to take place this evening.

These regulations go even further than the previous regulations introduced in 2021, giving the Northern Ireland Secretary the power to sidestep the Northern Ireland Executive. They give the Secretary of State “the power to do anything a Northern Ireland Minister or department may do” in respect of implementing abortion services, only without any accountability to Northern Ireland voters.

The previous regulations in 2021 did not include provision for ‘DIY’ home abortions. Now, Brandon Lewis has said he is “minded to take action” to bring in ‘DIY’ home abortions in Northern Ireland.
