Abortion Act anniversary + Find out where MSP candidates stand on abortion

Today marks the 58th anniversary of the Abortion Act coming into effect.

Since then, a staggering 11,105,671 unborn babies have lost their lives to abortion across the UK.

At the current rate of abortion, according to the most recent figures, one baby is lost to abortion every two minutes, 34 lives are ended every hour.

Every one of these abortions represents a collective failure of our society to protect the lives of babies in the womb and a failure to offer full support to women with unplanned pregnancies.

To find out more, see our press release here.

We are encouraging people around the country to post an anniversary commemoration graphic to their social media profiles.

If you are on social media, this is a small way that you can commemorate the lives lost, along with helping more people around the country know of this sad day.

You can do this on Facebook here, Instagram here or X here.

Scottish election campaign to stop abortion up to birth

Last week, we launched our Vote To Do No Harm Scotland campaign on assisted suicide.

Thank you if you have already taken action and contacted local MSP candidates, or if you do not live in Scotland, have encouraged friends and family living in Scotland to contact their MSP candidates.

Now, we need you to take a second, separate action – this time on abortion – through our new Vote For Both Lives Scotland campaign, which we have just launched.

This is a different campaign, with a different pledge, and your MSP candidates need to hear from you again, given that abortion is likely to become a major political issue in Scotland after the Scottish Parliament election on Thursday, 7 May.

Abortion up to birth

A recent review of abortion law in Scotland, commissioned by Humza Yousaf when he was Scottish First Minister, has recommended that Scotland scraps the 24-week abortion time limit and allows abortions on social grounds, including for sex-selective purposes, right up to birth.

This would leave Scotland with one of the most extreme abortion laws in the world.

After the election, there will be pressure from the abortion lobby for these extreme proposals to become law.

Both Lives Pledge

We are asking supporters who live in Scotland to contact their local MSP candidates and ask them to sign the Both Lives Pledge.

Candidates who sign the pledge commit to opposing any attempts to expand Scotland’s abortion laws and instead support policy changes that will save lives by protecting and supporting both mother and child.

If you live in Scotland, please click the button below now to ask your local MSP candidates to sign the Both Lives Pledge.

If you do not live in Scotland, you can still make a real difference by forwarding this email to friends and family in Scotland and asking them to contact their local MSP candidates.

We have launched a stand-alone pledge on abortion because many candidates take a different position on this issue from their position on assisted suicide, and may be less likely to sign a pledge on abortion if they also have to agree on assisted suicide.

Keeping the pledge on this separate means you, as a voter, will have clear information on exactly where your MSP candidates stand on this specific issue.

Thank you for all your help with this important campaign.
