Commemorating 51 years and 9,214,645 lives lost since the Abortion Act came into effect

Saturday 27th April marks 51 years since the Abortion Act came into effect. While the Abortion Act received Royal Assent on Friday the 27th of October 1967, it not come into effect until 6 months later, on 27th April 1968.

Over the last 51 years, a projected 9,214,645* unborn children have been aborted in England, Wales and Scotland. Below we have included a speech given by Lord Alton outside Parliament on the 50th Anniversary of the Abortion Act receiving Royal Assent.

Sadly 9,214,645 lives lost does not seem to be enough for the abortion lobby.

They are now mobilising people to write to their MPs to ask them to put pressure on the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Karen Bradley, to impose abortion on Northern Ireland.

It is very important that MPs receive emails encouraging them to make representations to Karen Bradley asking her to oppose any moves to override the devolution settlement.

We have set-up an ’email your MP’ tool on our website that will allow you to write to your MP on this now. Please click the button below now to take 30-second write to your MP.

*The projected figure of 9,214,645 abortions as 11.59pm on Saturday 27 April 2019 is based on the published abortion number from 1968-2017 for England, Wales and Scotland. The projected figure for 2018 is based on the assumption that the final published total number of abortions for 2018 will be a similar figure to the number published for 2017. The projected figure from Jan 1 2019 – 27 April 2019 is based on the following calculation: 2017 abortion numbers/365 * (no. of days from 1st Jan – 27th April). Full calculations are available on request from Right To Life UK.
