The attempt to hijack the UK Government’s flagship Health and Care Bill with an extreme abortion proposal has failed, with Diana Johnson MP’s amendment (NC50) not going to a vote.

Thank you to everyone who contacted their MP ahead of the debate.

Unfortunately, this is not the end when it comes to the abortion lobby’s plans to make changes to abortion legislation.

Earlier this year, abortion campaigners brought forward an amendment to the UK Government’s flagship Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill that would have introduced abortion on demand, for any reason, up to birth (including sex-selective abortion).

Thanks to the support from people like you, this amendment did not go to a vote and pass, but we expect the abortion lobby to make another attempt to introduce this extreme abortion law change shortly.

This would be the single biggest change to abortion legislation since 1967 and would leave England and Wales with one of the most extreme abortion laws in the world.

Please sign the petition to Boris Johnson, asking him to ensure that his Government does everything in its power to stop the introduction of abortion up to birth.

Pro-abortion MPs have tabled an amendment to the Government’s Health and Care Bill, which will be debated on Tuesday 23 November 2021.

Amendment NC50 seeks to amend the Offences Against the Person Act so that the current legal safeguards, which prevent a woman from performing her own abortion without the involvement of a registered abortion provider, would be removed through to 28 weeks’ gestation.

The amendment would go far beyond just removing abortion from the criminal law; it would allow women to perform their own abortion, for any reason (including sex of the fetus), up until 28 weeks’ gestation.

This would effectively allow sex-selective abortion until 28 weeks’ gestation (that predominantly impacts baby girls), which has been described by the Government as “abhorrent”.

It would also likely allow for far greater abuses than have already occurred under the current law.

Already within our current legal framework, we have seen doctors pre-signing abortion forms, sex-selective abortions being offered, live babies being left to die following abortions that have gone wrong and children with minor disabilities, such as cleft palate, being aborted.

In this context, where the current law is supposed to be preventing such appalling practices, the thought of allowing dangerous unsupervised abortion on demand until 28 weeks and removing legal and medical safeguards for such women is seriously worrying.

Please contact your MP now asking them to oppose this law change by entering your postcode in the field above. It only takes 30 seconds using our easy-to-use tool.
